Kristin vanEyk is a doctoral candidate in the Joint Program in English and Education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Kristin conducts qualitative research with multilingual students to understand how they use their languages in the university writing classroom.

Kristin is particularly interested in how students negotiate race in composition and how they make space for translanguaging. The goals of her research are to privilege the voices of diverse students, structure more equitable university writing experiences, and challenge deficit ideologies about multilingual and multidialectal students.

Before beginning her work at the University of Michigan in 2016, Kristin taught high school English for nine years in Grand Rapids, MI, where she also earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Kristin anticipates completing her doctoral work in the winter of 2020.
